My Personal Thoughts and Emotions:
Artemis Fowl was a truly amazing book. Artemis Fowl's personality really inspired me to try to be more compulsive. I normally go throughout my days living in the moment, without a plan or a worry in my head. That, I believe, is the way to be truly happy. But when I read Artemis Fowl, I realized that happiness and success are not often achieved together. Success takes hard work and planning, worrying about what can go wrong and providing redundancy systems. I need to do more in my life than be happy. I was created for a purpose, and I will fulfill that destiny. Artemis Fowl was always prepared, always two steps ahead of whatever danger he was facing. I need to try to be the same way. But reading the book also made me realize some flaws Artemis Fowl had. He was intelligent, and extremely knowledgeable, but he wasn't very wise, as wisdom comes from learning from the mistakes you make, and the mistakes others make around you. That only truly comes with age, and Artemis Fowl is still a kid. He messed with a mob boss, thinking that he was better than him because of his intellect. But the mob boss ended up taking millions of dollars worth of technology because Artemis got sloppy. He didn't realize the advantage the mob boss would have in power and numbers. It was the biggest mistake Artemis ever made. I, however, know my limits. I believe it is very important to realize what you can and can't do. This is something I realized while reading Artemis Fowl. It is also important to realize that what you can do and what you can't do changes very frequently. Those are some of the things Artemis Fowl made me realize. The way I felt while reading the book should also be mentioned. While reading the book, I always felt excited to see what Artemis Fowl would do next, and what the fairies would do to counter that. The book constantly mentions undodgeable fairy technology, and how Artemis knows a way to avoid it, but it never quite gives away what that is. It provides many clues, so that reading it a second time, you notice a lot of things you never noticed. This keeps it entertaining, no matter how many times you read it. The characters themselves are also very interesting. I found myself excited every time the author writes about different characters in their odd situations, because I wanted to know how they handled things. "What sort of fairy trick do they have up their sleeve," I would ask myself. "How will they get out of this one?" Another thing I noticed about the books is that the characters had consistent multi-layered personalities. The best example of this is Artemis Fowl. He is a genius and a mastermind, but he's also just a kid. Many times he's underestimated adults, thinking he's better than them, which is something any kid would do. His personality makes his character all the more interesting.
